A Herb that Helps When You Really Hit Your Head
Traumatic brain injury is the result of a violent blow to the head or body. It can cause serious cognitive problems. Remarkably, there is safe, effective herbal help even for this violent injury.
Traumatic brain injury can cause temporary problems. But it can also cause more serious, long-term complications, including disability and even death. The traumatic blow can cause neuropsychiatric, neurodegenerative and cognitive problems.
The ancient herb boswellia has many treasured uses. Also known as frankincense, this herb is powerfully anti-inflammatory and is remarkable for osteoarthritis, back pain and much more.
Here’s a new use, though. A double-blind study gave people with traumatic brain injury either a placebo or boswellia extract for three months. It then assessed them on three tests of cognitive function. Compared to the placebo group, the people in the boswellia group had significant improvement in all three tests, suggesting that boswellia is capable of improving cognitive function in people with traumatic brain injury.
